Rumor has it

... that handouts to students will be banned in my site´s English department. Say what? Apparently, one of the teachers was putting in extra effort to put together excellent handouts for her students. They showed the handouts to their friends in other English classes, who complained that they weren´t getting any. This teed off their teachers who, in turn, complained to the our site´s English coordinator. We´re having a meeting next week and one of the topics on the agenda is this "handout scandal". I can hardly believe it. Someone is doing an amazing job (and, recall, spending her own money to print/copy the handouts), but you tell her to stop because it´s making everyone else look bad? Again, say what?

I´m reminded of the chocolate chip cookie drama in the cafeteria at my last job in the States. Those cookies were so popular that they were frequently sold-out and it became sort of a game to see who would be lucky enough to buy some. A co-worker of mine finally scored some one day and asked the cashier why, if the cookies were always sold-out, didn´t they make more. The cashier responded flatly, "People would just buy them." ((Slapping forehead with palm))

No country has a lock on workplace nonsense.
